In a constantly evolving housing industry, one of the most compelling types of residence is the tiny home. These miniature dwellings have gained tremendous popularity over the last decade, convincing many to ditch their city apartments or conventional homes to adopt a more minimalist lifestyle and engage in sustainable consumption.
There are now countless tiny homes out there with various layouts and configurations, and while many models have lofted bedrooms to make efficient use of vertical space, this design choice might not be suitable for some downsizers, like those with mobility concerns, elderly people, and those who are not willing to climb up a flight of stairs or a ladder each night. Here is where single-level tiny homes come in, offering everything on a single floor.

We've seen plenty of one-story tiny houses without lofts, but few blend style, elegance, and high-end amenities with the perks of a mobile home as successfully as the Maxi 9 does. This ultra-modern home on wheels has been designed and crafted by Queensland-based BIG Tiny Homes, a team of builders passionate about creating bespoke compact houses that provide affordable and sustainable housing solutions, and is a luxurious living option for a couple seeking a cozy and versatile living space.

Boasting a minimalist yet stylish aesthetic, this model can be best described as a miniature version of a luxury single-level home that's easily transportable. It is built on a double-axle trailer and measures 29.5 feet (9 meters) in length and 8 feet (2.4 meters) in width, which makes it the largest model in the company's repertoire.

There is a lot to love about this beautiful home, from its unassuming exterior that embraces modern design with a slightly angled roof and corrugated metal siding to the thoughtful layout that manages to squeeze plenty of modern amenities in a relatively compact footprint. Besides a welcoming living room, an elegant kitchen, and one of the best ground-floor bedrooms, this tiny home also includes a small study area and a large and very practical walkthrough bathroom.

Like many Australian-built tinies, the Maxi 9 strategically uses wide glass entrance doors and large windows to open up the interior and invite the indoors in. This sensation of openness, coupled with a white-dominated design and high ceilings, creates a remarkably spacious living space, with dedicated areas for lounging, working, cooking, and private rest, as well as easy circulation around the house.

As you enter through a glass double door, you are greeted by a sleek, white kitchen with vast amounts of storage and no less than three meters of counter space. The glossy cabinets are coupled with a gray, solid surface countertop that adds contrast and elegance to the space. Apart from a large sink, the kitchen is void of appliances, but future owners can equip it with electric plug-in appliances like multicookers, portable cooktops, ovens, microwaves, and so on. There is also space for a residential-size refrigerator and a large pantry closet.

Multifunctionality is key in the design of compact spaces, and every nook needs to have a purpose to add value to your daily life. That's why the designers of this house fitted the living room with a couch for relaxing evenings in front of a wall-mounted TV, as well as a small desk that allows residents to use it as a workspace during the day.

With a seamless transition between the kitchen and the lounge, this is also a great space for entertaining friends, with the entire area giving off a premium vibe due to the carefully selected fittings and furniture pieces.

Past the kitchen, you will find the walkthrough bathroom that is discretely separated from the common living area. It is modern and functional, fitted with all the typical amenities, such as a full-size glass-enclosed shower cabin, a toilet, a vanity, and space for a washer/dryer.

Last but not least, the spacious, private, and easy-to-access bedroom at the far end of the house is one of its best assets. It is a cozy sanctuary of rest and relaxation and fits a double bed, a nightstand, and two wardrobes flanking the door. It follows the same aesthetic as the rest of the house with white walls and furniture for an open, bright look, but what makes it special is the separate entrance door for direct access from the outside and plenty of natural light. Again, like in most Australian tiny homes, luminosity and a seamless connection with the surrounding nature were prioritized.

With its clever single-floor layout, elegant exterior design, and refined interior, the Maxi 9 tiny home is an ideal housing solution for those who don’t want to deal with tight-spaced lofts and cumbersome ladders. Though it has only one bedroom, it could easily sleep two more people with a convertible couch in the living room. Up to four people can enjoy the benefits of tiny living in this stylish house on wheels.

Price-wise, the turnkey base version of the Maxi 9 tiny home is AUD$110,000 (approx. US$72,850), and the builder also offers this model in lockup stage for only AUD $55,000 (US$36,420), giving owners the opportunity to complete the tiny home with their own choice of finishes and furnishings.
