Just because you're downsizing doesn't have to mean skimping on comfort or, in this particular case, on luxury finishes and features. With enough money in your wallet or great financing, downsizing can be as outrageous as you want.
Tiny houses might be all the rage today, but you need to remember their "humble" beginnings in the early 2000s, when they were nothing short of miniature houses designed for a more sustainable lifestyle. Downsizing in a tiny house was then a means to reduce your carbon footprint and live a more intentional lifestyle – the equivalent of walking barefoot in a city park to get in touch with Mother Nature, if you will.

The benefits – and implicitly the mission – of tiny houses have changed since, at a rate matching their increasing popularity. The tiny houses of today are also excellent to support a nomadic lifestyle and to monetize said lifestyle on social media, in addition to bringing about lower living costs, a reduced carbon footprint, and higher affordability compared to standard homes.

That said, the tiny houses of today can also be as outrageous as you can afford it because the market has boomed to include a large array of premium models. Like with every other industry out there, true specialness is achieved through customization – and that always costs money because it also implies more work and longer timelines.

The unit we're looking at today is at the higher end of the premium market, which is reflected both in its price and its finishes (hat tip to HomeCrux for spotting it first).

It's a fully custom and brand-new model that's been made available in Austin, Texas and it's asking a whopping $189,000. If that's way too much money to pay for a home on wheels for whatever reason, it still makes for an entertaining watch and serves as an example of how far you can go even on this limiting niche of tiny houses.

The listing doesn't mention the builder or why the owner has decided to part with a unit that's clearly a reflection of their taste and personality. Only the former would have any relevance here, come to think of it. This tiny lives like a proper but scaled down mansion on wheels in absolutely every way imaginable.

Based on a triple-axle trailer, it's 30 feet (9.2 meters) long, 10 feet (3 meters) wide, and 14 feet (4.2 meters) high, so it's essentially a park model tipping the scales at 21,000 lbs (9,525 kg). With over 300 square feet (27.8 square meters) of available living space, it can only be moved with a special permit, which limits its mobility to a great extent. That said, whoever might be living in it next is probably not much of a nomad, either.

The layout is a standard single-loft one, but the styling is unlike what you'll find in the majority of tiny homes, with premium finishes and features that bring certain glamour – and a certain degree of ostentatiousness – to the place. However, the general vibe is "rich," but not in an in-your-face way.

You get a main bedroom on the ground floor, which in itself is not that common with tiny houses, a full kitchen, a living room and separate dining area, a bathroom, and a secondary sleeping loft right on top of it. The finishes are colorful against muted neutrals and whites for the floors and walls, with quite fancy touches here and there: gold fixtures in the bathroom, real tiles for the backsplashes, marble countertops, and even a chandelier.

If you're not new to tiny houses, which we assume you're not if you're reading this, these are not common features in tiny houses. Throw in a wall-mounted fireplace in the lounge, a full laundry station, and a bathroom that could be described as spa-like, and you get the feel of a mini-mansion.

But the merits of a tiny house like this one go beyond the striking aesthetics. A bigger budget for a tiny house usually means a larger footprint and the ability to pack in extra functionality, which is apparent here. This home on wheels has everything from a large kitchen to plenty of storage options, a laundry station, and more than enough room to move around and not feel like you're either intruding on someone else or about to bump an elbow against something.

Described as a tiny that "combines convenience with elegance" so that you can "experience a unique lifestyle in a home that makes no compromises on luxury and comfort," this would probably be the dream tiny home for the average tiny home owner.

For everyone else looking at it, it's an example of how downsizing doesn't necessarily have to mean skimping on luxury or ultra-comfort. Unsurprisingly, a generous budget WILL do that – if this home is asking nearly $200K, we imagine a generous budget is exactly what the original owner had.
