A 1971 Dodge Challenger is already a head turner, but a 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T that is a rare find these days could easily become a model that can win trophies at car shows.
Or, at least, this is what the owner who sells this 1971 Challenger R/T on Craigslist claims, explaining they have owned the car for 20 years.

Judging from the photos, this Challenger is indeed looking pretty good and is completely rust-free, which isn’t really common these days on a car that is almost 50 years old. Of course, this isn’t by any means a barn find, and it looks like the owner just took care of both the interior and the exterior just the way a Challenger deserves in the first place.

But the more interesting tidbit is that the Challenger R/T here is actually part of the very small group of units that were manufactured by Dodge in 1971 and equipped with the 340ci (5.6-liter) V8 engine. Only 1,078 Challengers were built that year with this engine, and the model that you can purchase here is one of them.

Not a show car but a nice driver that can win trophies at car shows,” the owner explains.

The car can be yours for $38,000, and it is located in Missoula, Montana, just in case you want to check it out in person before buying it.

But in addition to being so rare and looking pretty good after all these years, there’s something else that makes this Challenge more special than the rest you can find online.

The 1971 model year was the last one when Dodge launched an R/T version of the Dodge Challenger, as it was replaced for MY 1972 by the Challenger Rallye. This new series was available with a choice of three engines, namely the 225ci (3.7-liter), the 318ci (5.2-liter) V8, and the 340ci (5.5-liter) V8.
