If you wanted a small, fast Japanese sportscar with an open top, you'd but the the Honda S2000. Oh wait, that hasn't been produced for a while now. Guess the Mazda Miata is your only choice.
But the biggest carmaker in the world has revealed a car that makes the MX-5 look totally boring. The first photos of the Toyota FT 86 Open Top Concept emerged today, showing us the concept that will be shown in a few days at the Geneva Motor Show. If enough people want it, Toyota will soon put it into production, which considering how cool the Open Top is looks like a certainty.
The convertible concept is pretty much identical to the coupe we drove and loved last year. The roof has been chopped, and modifications have been made to windshield and the fitment of new wheels, but other than that it's pretty much the same car.
Interestingly, the interior is still a two plus two. We found the back seats of the GT 86 coupe to be a bit of a squeeze, thanks to a restrictive roof and complete lack of legroom. Rather than place a could of knee-hugger seats, they could have just made the car with a bigger boot.
Either way, the car is going to be a lot of fun, and we can't wait to get our hands on it. Since the GT 86/ Scion FR-S is actually built in a Subaru factory, there's no chance in a million years that Suby fans will be left out.
