An impressive collection of 56 Porsche cars, all painted in white, has been sold to a mystery buyer, who paid over $30 million to take them all home.
An anonymous seller offered the entire fleet of white 56 Porsche passenger cars, classic and modern, painted in white down to the last one, and two Porsche-Diesel junior tractors painted in red. The "White Collection," which reached the current number of automobiles, represents over a decade of dedicated collecting.
The cars have just been sold to a collector with undisclosed identity for a staggering $30.5 million during an auction organized by RM Sotheby’s in a warehouse described by the auctioneers as a “Porsche Sanctuary,” located in Houston, Texas. Inside the venue, all painted in white, walls and floor included, visitors have to wear socks or protective booties.
The main attraction of the collection was a 2015 Porsche 918 Wiessach Spyder, which was auctioned off for $3.94, which was around one million dollars over the estimate, which was between $2.5 and 3 million.
That does not come as a surprise since the hybrid supercar, considered the crown jewel of the collection, comes with the desirable Wissach performance package and around $100,000 worth of options. It is finished in Grand Prix White, sports matching wheels, and has a Yachting Blue leather interior.
The odometer shows just 12 miles (19 kilometers). When delivered, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur reportedly asked the owner to keep the spec a secret, as they would not be able to roll out another one like it. The price included a matching leather luggage and a race suit.
Three other Porsche models were sold for over $2 million each. The exclusive list includes a 1997 Porsche 911 GT2 in Glacier White over extended black leather upholstery, which was originally delivered to Japan. The model was now sold for $2,297,500.
A custom 1993 Porsche Carrera RSR 3.8 built by Porsche Motorsport, one of the two examples ever made, delivered new to the UK, was auctioned off for $2,073,000. The model features a striking color combination: the seats on board the white vehicle are wrapped in red leather, while the Porsche rides on red-painted wheels.
Meanwhile, a 1974 911 Carrera RS 3.0, reportedly the best preserved of only 55 units ever built, rounded up the $2 million list.
All vehicles went for well over their pre-auction estimates. Gord Duff, RM Sotheby’s Global Head of Auction, said the results were incredible.
White has been the most popular car paint worldwide year after year, with a market share of 26.2% from January to November 2023. Black comes in second, having been selected by 21.8 percent of the car buyers this year. Gray rounds up the podium with 19.2%. However, as far as we know, nobody has ever set up such an impressive collection of white cars.
