Racing tracks have a magical power of closing the performance gap between various cars when the underdog driver knows what to do. This even applies when the hardware distance between two vehicles is hefty, and we've got a sweet example for you.
This comes in the form of the video below, which shows a Milltek-tuned Ford Fiesta ST doing its best to one-up a Porsche Cayman on the Nurburgring. In fact, we're not talking about "any" Cayman here - this is a GT4, the mid-engined track dream that mixes a 911 GT3 suspension with a Carrera S flat-six.

With the driver of the hot hatch appearing to know the Nordschleife like the back of his hand, the man keeps his eyes on the Zuffenhausen prize and finally manages to share the same intake air with the GT4.

In a spectacular move, the British-modded ST (this actually packs multiple race-spec features, but it remains a four-cylinder FWD machine) manages to pass the Porsche just before entering the infamous Carousel, turning this story into a memorable pass.

As you can imagine, the joy didn't last all that long, with the Cayman getting back at the Ford on the straight that arrived shortly after, but nothing can take away those few seconds of high-octane elation.

To put things in a different perspective, the most recent example of driving skill easily overcoming horsepower on the track came during the S550 Ford Mustang track test we did last year.

The circuit was flooded with both GT and EcoBoost incarnations of the 'Stang, but this didn't stop the Blue Oval's driving instructors in their four-cylinder turbos from keeping less-than-sharp journos behind them despite the V8 power available to the latter.

P.S.: To our eyes, this is a classic case of a Ring Wolf doing his thing. You know, a driver who is all too familiar with the Green Hell's secrets and likes to play with sportscar or even supercars in his modded hot hatch.
