The RV and mobile living industry is undergoing a shift; even you've witnessed it and didn't even realize it. RVs are going electric and have been for a couple of years now. However, one American crew, Grounded RV is doing things a bit differently.
Folks, the name Grounded may seem familiar to you as we covered their work extensively since 2022, when they first appeared on the market. Why such focus on what the work they achieve? Well, for starters, they design and build nothing more than campervans and travel trailers, but with a focus on nothing more than pure electric power! In short, they're a sort of Tesla of the campervan world, and that actually means quite a bit.

For example, this crew currently has a lightweight towable in their lineup, but most importantly, their G1 campervan is what really broke ground earlier this year. Through a collaboration with Ford, Grounded took an E-Transit and transformed it into a road-worthy home filled with modular capabilities and a clean-cut and futuristic interior.

Well, Grounded RVs has been busy in the past six months. As if to come out of nowhere, we're now being presented with the newest addition to their insanely fast-growing lineup, the G2, another campervan. Still, this time, it looks as if Grounded took everything to the next level!

When I say next level, I really mean it because the G2 is presenting itself as an entirely different machine in comparison to the G1 grounded revealed this year. In short, the G2 is the next stage in this company's evolution. Even the base vehicle is from a different manufacturer, resulting in an RV unlike others seen on the market thus far, and I sift through RV designs like a blue whale feeding on plankton.

Overall, Grounded has decided to opt for a vehicle designed and built by the folks over BrightDrop. If you haven't heard of this brand, just take note that it was born back in 2021 under General Motors' rule and bringing cargo EV solutions to North America. This is where their Zevo 600 comes in.

As we can clearly see by the design of this base machine, it's designed to maximize interior space, mainly because it was designed to carry as many packages and parcels around town as possible. Well, this cubic structure plays an essential part in the way the exterior and interior of the G2 perform and what you can do with it.

Starting with the exterior, upon seeing the G2, I was reminded of a UPS truck about to pull up in front of my house and start throwing packages at me. Even a retracting rear gate is in place, and while I wasn't really big on the whole Minecraft look, I fell in love with it upon seeing what sort of interior this shape can allow for, gate and all!

Sure, everything is all squared off inside, but if you're looking for maximum headroom and space for the features and systems you need, then this squared-off shape is what you want. Don't agree? If we compare it to the cubicles (our rooms) we live in on a daily basis, there's no way we can say it's not a natural and homey design.

This shape also allows Grounded to craft an interior that basically offers whatever you need when living life on the go. One aspect of the interior we need to be aware of is that it's modular. Created with a mounting rail system, Grounded allows future owners to arrange and rearrange their homes based on needs and wants.

Now, it's not entirely clear just what sort of features and spaces are placed at our disposal, but the images in the gallery show us enough to figure out what we can expect. There's a galley block fitted with a flush countertop system, storage up above, and vis-a-vis, more storage. But I didn't see a bathroom or even read anything about one in the press release.

All that's followed up with a modular dinette and an elevated bed with storage underneath. The latter sits in the backdrop of that rear gate I mentioned, so you can imagine your mornings waking up in the middle of the wild. Take the time to picture yourself in the center of the G2 interior and see if it fits your lifestyle.

But, there's a problem, and one that's not limited to the G2, but rather, all EVs currently on the market, their dang range! For instance, the Zevo 600 is limited to a maximum range of "over" 250 mi (402 km). What does this mean for you and me? It typically means having to move around North America from one power station to another. I'm not saying it's not possible; it is. VW proved it some years ago when the current infrastructure was still in its infancy. But, we're limited on just how 'off-grid' we can go.

If you do somehow manage to make it into the middle of nowhere - made possible by the AWD functionality of the Zevo 600 and the 165 kWh battery pack - you'll be able to access another 10 kWh from a house battery that's fed by 640 W of solar panel power mounted on the G2.

How much is all of this going to run you and me? Well, being an EV, it's definitely not going to be cheap, and at this time, the G2 is priced starting at $187,500 (€177K at current exchange rates) after a Federal Tax credit is applied. Orders are now open for a $1,000 refundable deposit.

As for myself, I love what Grounded has achieved here, but that price tag is the one thing that's pushing me away from ever considering such a machine, and that's true for most Americans, too. Just a little something-something to think about if you're looking for the most modern RV around.
