It managed to haunt our dreams and gave us a lot of sleepless nights, but now we get to see it in the metal. Better said, in the carbon fibre, Mercedes-AMG’s weapon of choice when it comes to dressing overzealous models like the GT3.
There’s plenty of room for everybody at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, but somehow the AMG GT still has that mad look on its face, basically screaming ‘back off or feel the taste of my amazing body kit’.
Speaking of which, carbon fiber is the solution when having to transform standard performance cars into track-oriented speed demons. That’s why Mercedes-AMG had no holding back in providing a menacing rear wing, a rear diffuser and a front spoiler for its race-bred Frankenstein.
We also love the color theme chosen for the exterior, looking much better in real life than in Mercedes-AMG’s batch of official photos released prior to the GT3’s debut in Switzerland, showing the race car releasing its inner evil on the Estoril Circuit in Portugal.
Moving on to the cockpit, we can’t help but notice the steering wheel which looks more like a state-of-the-art joystick invented by a geek gamer rather than a tool for taming circuit demons. Of course, the interior is basically plated in carbon fiber - the clam shell racing seats included - like a medieval knight wearing his armor and the way buttons are spread across the dashboard and center console might mess with your mind, suggesting you actually stepped into a jet fighter.
We’re happy to see that in terms of appearance, the AMG GT3 is a lot more dangerous-looking that the SLS AMG GT3, so our next dilemma is whether the engine will be up to the challenge. However, this is a subject we’ll get back on as soon as more information becomes available.
UPDATE: According to Mercedes-AMG, the GT3 racer will use a 6.2-liter V8 engine with "a sonorous sound" but they don't give away any specs yet, although our guess is that the AMG GT3 will have at least 550+ HP at its disposal to tear apart the competition.
