A teardrop trailer might be a lot of things but it can't rival standard-sized travel trailers in terms of features, comfort, and convenience. If that's how you feel, the TAG Boondock would like a word.
TAG Trailers, also spelled T@G, are among the most popular compact-size towables in North America. Produced by nuCamp, the TAG Trailer is offered in two sizes and with a variety of optionals, both packages and add-ons, so that every traveler can find the perfect towable regardless of budget or its intended use.

TAG Trailers are teardrop trailers, which means their cabins are taken up entirely by the bedroom slash mattress, they feature tailgate kitchens, and add-ons that render them more capable for serious adventures like off-roading and boondocking. One of the packages available for the larger version, the TAG XL, is actually the Boondock option, which, as of the 2024 model-year, will be offered as standard.

That brings us to the 2024 TAG Boondock, styled as the ultimate trailer for whatever adventures you have in mind. Upgradable with the Black Canyon option and the Lithium package, it becomes a gorgeous, sleek, and all-competent towable you can adventure out in for extended period of times. As long as you keep in mind that we're still talking about a teardrop trailer, of course.

At their core, teardrop trailers are towables that provide the most basic functionality at camp or outside of it. Their compact size and light weight means they can be easily be towed even by a standard daily driver, while also offering a wider reach than larger options.

They provide shelter and cooking facilities, hauling capabilities, and, in some cases, an outdoor shower at the most. Many are designed to be modular, so you can use add-ons to enhance their capabilities. For the adventurer looking to experience the world, a towable like this is the perfect companion.

The TAG Boondock is all these things but with a plus in comfort. The 2024 model is spacious and well-specced, but it's also finished with high-quality materials that give it an extra luxurious vibe. The TAG Boondock might be designed to tackle the toughest terrains, but it lives more lavishly than a standard teardrop.

With a total length of 13.7 feet (4.2 meters), the TAG Boondock is 7.8 feet (2.4 meters) wide, just like its less fancy sibling, the TAG XL. It offers 43 inches (109 cm) of headspace inside the cabin when sitting down on the tri-fold multi-functional mattress, which is enough to get you to move around without fearing some kind of painful damage to your skull due to a moment of inattention.

The TAG Boondock comes with a dry weight between 1,427 lbs and 1,594 lbs (647-723 kg), but it can go as high as 1,622 lbs (736 kg) if you add the Black Canyon package.

Upgrades over the previous-year model include a much larger water tank (23 gallons instead of 11/87 liters instead of 42 liters), a water heater, a water tank heater, a step-on fender, storage trays on the trailer tongue, better compartmentalized storage options under the mattress, undercarriage lighting, and an extra 180W of solar for a total of 300W on the roof of the trailer.

Other new additions are minor touches that nonetheless bring a plus of convenience. There's a large removable nuCamp cutting board over the Camco cooling box in the kitchen, two extra small shelves at the foot of the bed, mood lighting, and a spray port on the side that can double as an outdoor shower.

The TAG Boondock feels much fancier, as well, thanks to the choice for durable, easy-clean, and higher quality materials. Its three opening windows and the ceiling fan help keep the cabin well ventilated, while the 110V AC and separate heater can further make it cozier, but only at camp.

Like its predecessor, the TAG Boondock has a two-burner propane cooker in the kitchen, an optional microwave that can be replaced by a cabinet, a sink, and more than enough storage options and counter space to cook up decent meals. There's a diamond plate storage box on the tongue, now neighbored by three other trays in the standard Boondock.

With the Lithium package, you get a 200ah battery pack and an inverter to run off the lights and some devices inside the cabin, so you make the most of the solar panels – you even have the option to plug in a portable one, if you want. RV-style hookups are available for campsite stays, so you can run the AC and the heater to be as comfortable as possible.

The 2024 TAG Boondock trailer is available through nuCamp's network of dealers, so pricing is dependent on your choice of distributor and the final spec. As a reference, a single search online shows that a TAG XL Limited Edition Black Canyon can be had for under $26,000, while a Boondock without the Black Canyon package is less, under $25,000.

Here's a very enthusiastic presentation of the 2024 TAG Boondock Black Canyon trailer from one of these dealers.
