With a weight of under 1,500 kg (3,300 kg), the upcoming BMW M4 will be a lightweight Coupe with a lot of power, bound to offer the best sensations in its segment (at least).
But how exactly was that number reached? The development of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer was paramount in the development of both the F82 M4 and the F80 M3.
Just like the E46 CSL model, the M4 will have a CFRP roof with a brand new, striking design and functional advantage. The CFRP roof will shave 5 kg off the weight of the M3 and 6 kg off the M4, whilst also lowering the centre of gravity.
The newly developed boot lid will also be made out of the same material, with an even sportier personality and a fresh design, not to mention the weight savings.
Last but not least, the strut brace in the engine compartment was also built out of CFRP. Weighing only 1.5 kg, the strut brace offers superior rigidity to a comparable aluminum component and will further improve the steering response in both the M4 and the M3.
