Earlier this year, Elon Musk promised that Tesla Motors will deliver an electric car for the masses that will rival the Nissan Leaf and cost less than $40,000.
Rumored to become available as the Model E, the new entry-level four-door electric car will be unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, about 13 months from now, said Tesla chief designed Franz von Holzhausen.
Speaking to Autobild, he also noted that "the electric car for the masses" won't be a smaller Model S, as the California-based company doesn't want to adopt a styling strategy similar the one used by Audi.
Little is know about the upcoming Tesla Model E, but Musk said the new sedan will offer a range of about 200 miles (320 kilometers).
Meanwhile, the American manufacturer is also working on the Model X, a crossover that that will be introduced sometime next year.
