The Cybertruck is a rather – shall we say – interesting truck in many respects. For example, it features a single wiper that measures a tremendous 62 inches, which is 157 centimeters in metric. Based on a recently published report on the NHTSA's website, 11,688 examples of the breed have been recalled over a wiper motor controller that may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.
1853250-00-B is the part number of said wiper motor assembly, which comes from Valeo Sistemas Electricos of Mexico's San Luis Potosi. Turns out the gate driver may have been damaged during functional testing due to electrical overstress, which prompted the supplier to introduce a different functional test on May 28.

More specifically, the revised test uses a lower current to ensure gate driver integrity. Affected vehicles were assembled at Giga Texas in the period between November 13 last year and June 6 this year. Tesla Service identified an abnormal number of early wiper motor failures on February 2, prompting the battery-electric vehicle manufacturer to investigate the recall condition.

20 motors were inspected by Tesla engineers. Through June 4, both Valeo and tier-2 supplier USI uncovered damage to the gate driver. It goes without saying that Cybertruck vehicles at delivery centers or en route to delivery centers won't be delivered to customers until the remedy is performed. Tesla stores and service centers have already been informed about this problem, while owners of subject trucks will be notified by first-class mail no later than August 18, 2024.

Tesla isn't aware of any accidents relating to reduced visibility from a non-functioning windshield wiper. The company's number for this recall is SB-24-17-006, whereas the federal watchdog refers to it as recall number 24V-456.

Owners are recommended to contact Tesla customer service, the nearest service center, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more information on this field action. Tesla Service and the NHTSA make it quite easy for owners to determine whether their vehicles are recalled or not by offering a VIN look-up tool.

2024 Tesla Cybertruck vehicle identification numbers start with the number 7. Automobiles produced in the United States also carry VINs beginning with 1, 4, and 5. What about 2 and 3? Those are for Canada and Mexico, respectively.

A highly controversial pickup truck, the widely-talked-about Tesla Cybertruck can accommodate one, two, or three motors. The All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast are preferred over the Rear-Wheel Drive due to their much better driving range estimates, with both specifications boasting 123-kWh battery packs.

The structural battery is composed of 4680-type cells, while overall battery pack weight is around 1,590 pounds or 720 kilograms. Considering that a 2024 Mazda Roadster (a.k.a. the MX-5 Miata for Japan), tips the scales at 1,010 kilograms or 2,227 pounds, the Cybertruck is one heavy rig.
