Tug-of-war is such a truck thing to do, and the Cybertruck was no exception. A few days after Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, Elon Musk tweeted a video of the Cybertruck tug-of-war against a diesel Ford F-150. However, the video has been contested, and Cybertruck's reputation has been tainted. In another take, a Cybertruck owner pitted his pickup against a loaded Ram 3500.
When Elon Musk shared the tug-of-war video of the Cybertruck against a Ford F-150 pickup in November 2019, critics dismissed it as a PR stunt. Although the Cybertruck's technical details were unknown at the time, many argued that the electric Cybertruck should've been much heavier than the poor F-150. Since tugs-of-war are less about power and torque and more about traction, weight plays a big role. To add insult to injury, the pickup was an RWD model, another disadvantage compared to the Cybertruck.

The controversies surrounding the video made people want to try it themselves, but, alas, Tesla made them wait for the chance for four long years. Surprisingly, the first attempt surfaced in February, three months after the first Cybertruck units were delivered. This didn't go very well either because the safety systems in Tesla's electric pickup would not play ball. Specifically, the traction control prevented the Cybertruck from unleashing its full power. This made it an easy prey for the Chevy Silverado it competed against.

Things appeared to have improved tremendously for Cybertruck since February. A new tug-of-war video, this time against a Ram 3500, shows that the Cybertruck perfectly controls traction even on gravel. This might have to do with the truck's locking differentials, which were only activated with a software update in April. The test is repeated on asphalt for good measure, although it might not be very relevant, either.

That's because the Cybertruck is a Dual-Motor AWD model, whereas the Ram 3500 in the video is an RWD variant. The Ram Heavy Duty truck sports dually wheels, but it's unclear how much this helps against an AWD Cybertruck. To even out the playing field, the Ram is loaded with about 500 pounds (about 230 kg) of garbage, while the Cybertruck carries about 300 pounds (136 kg) of construction tools.

Although the pickup trucks in this tug-of-war attempt are still not comparable, it shows that the Cybertruck has improved traction since February. The Cybertruck maintains grip even on gravel while the Ram truck spins its wheels pointlessly. The result is even clearer on asphalt, where the Cybertruck drags the Ram pickup effortlessly. Although Cybertruck fans cheered, the opposite crowd claimed this proves nothing about either truck.

The video was shared on the "Haslo tu mismo en construcción" Facebook page, which has many videos from a person who actually uses the Cybertruck for his construction crew. He wasn't always happy with the pickup, and he even tried to return it to Tesla because it took too much to charge. If you're interested in more Cybertruck stories, give him a follow.
