Santa was generous with still the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano. The model, following its successful launch last year, now struggling to bring back the sales numbers of 2009, has been given the Good Design award by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The award in itself, not so popular in the automotive industry, comes right in time to remind the world of what the model was once about. The two organizers of the awards mentioned above happened to give the award to the Nano for the exact same attributes of the car the Indian manufacturer is currently advertising in the first marketing campaign for the model.
More precisely, Tata says the Nano has been mostly recognized for the “incredibly spacious passenger compartment, which can comfortably seat four adults.” The Nano has been selected the winner in the transportation category.
This spacious small car, which happens to have at the same time the smallest exterior footprint of any car in India is currently being supported on the local market by both the marketing campaign mentioned above and new finance schemes designed to boost the sales figures.
Somewhat affected by the spontaneous combustion incidents from earlier this year, with the prices for the model on a continuous rise, the Nano still remains at the center of the plans the company that created it has for the world. And this despite the fact that in November, the carmaker registered perhaps the lowest level of Nanos sold ever, with only 509 units leaving the dealerships lots.
