During his early childhood, this editor was what you'd call a sheltered child, and after Legos, his favorite hobby was building model kits. And even though this pastime isn't as popular today due to phones and whatnot, Tamiya is still putting up a good fight.
Oh, Tamiya. Back in the day, their kits were the holy grail of kits because they were way more accurate and had superior accessories. We can't imagine that has changed, as the package you'll need to put together the 2020 Supra is a whopping $50.
Can you imagine being a teen again and lusting over this kind of toy? It's about a couple of months' worth of Fortnite skins. You can't even call this a toy, since the skill level required to put the Supra together makes it +14 pack.
You've got chrome parts, real tires, decals, the interior, all the painting for the bodywork - your friends won't be able to reach you for days on end. And if you mess something up, it's all over, there's no undo button.
Of course, the kit is still way cheaper than the real deal. The GR Supra is about $60,000 plus whatever the greedy dealers want. for $50, you'd be lucky to get a set of Supra carpets or a badge replacement.
The only sad bit about finishing a perfect model is that after it's done, it just sits on your desk collecting dust. Thankfully, Tamiya also makes a ready-built remote-controlled version for your drifting needs. How long before the widebody kits are also available?
Even though the initial reaction to the BMW platform and engine was pretty bad, the Supra is clearly now the coolest Japanese car launched all year, and everybody wants a part of the action. Let us know what toy versions you've spotted and liked in the comments section.
