Suzuki showed two special edition models for the Italian market at the Turin Auto Show 2019 last week. They are called the Jimny Gan and Vitara Katana, and from what we understand, other markets will receive them as well.
It's nice to see a manufacturer that doesn't take itself too seriously. You'd never have Volkswagen using German stereotypes, not that there are any good ones. However, these special editions look like bad tattoos or visible underwear bands - not very subtle drunk decisions.
The Vitara Katana is based on the AllGrip 4x4 model with the 1.4-liter BoostJet turbo engine packing 140 horsepower, so it's a top-spec car. In case you didn't know, "Katana" is the Japanese word for sword, and you get suitable stickers all over.
The crossover is finished in Gray London paint with a black roof and red stripes added to many elements. They added satin black wheels as well, which look quite fragile but add to the sporty nature of the model which was only recently refreshed. That added new lights and several interior upgrades like the Alcantara inserts.
Meanwhile, the Jimny Gan takes its name of the Japanese word for strength and stubbornness, which is fitting. From what we understand, it's been modified by a tuner called Zanfi and sits 100mm higher, with new springs, painted bright green, shock absorbers, Panhard bars and a minimum ride height of 310 mm.
The Gan also boasts a detachable anti-roll bar, reinforced transmission shafts, differentials covers, and 30 mm wheel spacers, which carry larger 235/75 tires. Cosmetics have been improved with a cable holder, a lateral stone guard in light anthracite gray and various red accents. Although pricing hasn't been released, Suzuki special editions and accessories are know for being more affordable. Too bad they can't officially sell G-Class or Land Rover-inspired body kits.
