Suzuki is not what one would call a ‘major automaker’, and they have always offered ‘different’ and ‘interesting’ alternatives to the mainstream brands, with their vehicles being appreciated for their toughness, driving characteristics and left-field attitude - they do offer a supemini with all-wheel drive, and are the only manufacturer to do so.
Now, however, Suzuki have announced that they will be pulling out of the US market, to concentrate on motorcycles, ATVs and marine vehicles. This means that they will not be officially selling any more cars on US soil, once the current stockpiles run out.
The reasons they have cited for the decision are "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market."
For current owners, they will honor their warranties until the very last one, as parts will be brought in from Japan.
