If you own a Subaru WRX or Forester 2.0XT, the turbocharger is probably the reason you bought the car - sure, the all-wheel-drive is awesome, but you need the powaaah, right? Well, that turbo needs a bit of attention, with the Japanese automaker recalling 2015-2016 models to take care of the boost delivery hardware.
The campaign affects 18,200 units of the 2015-2016 WRX and Forester 2.0XT, with the first having been produced between April 10, 2015, and October 21, 2015, while the Foresters have rolled out the factory gate between April 1, 2015 and October 20, 2015.
Subaru explains the origin of the issue sits with one of its suppliers, which used a below-standards material for a number of parts.
When it comes to the time frame, Subaru hasn't announced a schedule for the recall yet, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explains in a statement.
You can also contact the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline by calling 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), as well as online, by heading over to www.safercar.gov.
What is the problem?
The turbo itself has no issue, but its intake duct might crack, which could cause the engine to stall. Now, if your engine dies mid-traffic, the risk of a crash is obviously increased. Fortunately, though, the automaker isn't aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.Subaru explains the origin of the issue sits with one of its suppliers, which used a below-standards material for a number of parts.
Here's what Subaru will do about it
As a remedy, Subaru dealers will inspect the turbo air intake duct. Checking the number of the part will reveal if this is included in the affected lot. Where necessary, dealers will replace the part, an operation that will obviously be done free of charge. When it comes to the time frame, Subaru hasn't announced a schedule for the recall yet, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explains in a statement.
