Subaru will end production of the Tribeca in January, with last examples of the three-row crossovers to be delivered to dealers in February 2014, the Japanese automaker revealed earlier this week.
The announcement is not surprising at all, as Subaru managed to sell only 78,000 units of the Tribeca since its introduction in 2005. The crossover was one of the worst-selling vehicles in the United States in 2011 and 2012, and 2013 is not getting better with just 1,247 examples delivered through September.
Subaru said "it plans to return to the mid-size SUV segment with a three-row vehicle in the future", but declined to elaborate. The Tribeca is built at the company's Lafayette, Indiana plant and comes with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine rated at 256 HP.
