Subaru is looking to bring an infusion of value to its vehicles, both in terms of styling and engineering. As far as our our eyes are concerned, future Subarus will borrow the Impreza Concept’s styling cues, while the company will also introduce a new hybrid powertrain, as autocar reports.
The Impreza Concept’s styling cues, such as the beefy wheel arches and the bold shoulder lines, will be used for multiple new cars, including the Subaru incarnation of the Toyota FT-86, a vehicle that has already gathered a huge fanbase.
The new image will also be borrowed by a hybrid version of the Legacy, which will use Toyota technology. The car will come with the THS II hybrid system, the one featured on the previous generation of the Prius, which will work together with a 2.5 liter version of the company’s new FB-type Boxer engine.
The FB powerplant, an all-new development that was previewed last autumn, comes with a displacement of 1,995cc. The unit will be available in multiple power levels, with the top one, which will be fitted to the FT-86, developing around 200 hp. However, Subaru will also release a turbocharged version of the engine, which should offer an interesting mix of performance and efficiency.
And the Japanese automotive producer’s efforts won’t stop here, as the company also plans changes in the transmission department. The company is planning to eliminate torque converter automatic transmissions, introducing more efficient systems. The Legacy will be the first to benefit from this change.
