The first rule of Project Midnight is that you don't talk about Project Midnight. If that line sounds familiar, your memory is definitely not failing you. It is Subaru's take on the famous line in Fight Club. What are they up to? A WRX seems to be involved.
The first rule of Fight Club is that you don't talk about Fight Club. That is what Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt in the 1999 blockbuster, said to the newcomers. Twenty-five years later, it is the manner Subaru Motorsports USA is suggesting that this motor racing project is top secret.

What we know so far is that the racing division of Subaru will disclose the secret at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer. Subaru promises that the "yet unreleased beast is unlike anything Subaru Motorsports USA has ever brought to Goodwood – or for that matter, anywhere." Ok, they've got our attention.

Subaru Motorsports lets us know that this car, which they describe as ferocious, will fire up the hill as it will be a worthy stablemate to the Family Huckster. That was a heavily modified Subaru GL that made its debut with the 2022 Gumkhana.

The 1983 example was powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter, pumped up to deliver 862 horsepower. The model should be driven, as usual, by racer and stunt performer Travis Pastrana. The extreme duo finished second overall at the Goodwood hill climb last year.

The team uploaded four photos to social media, and they are quite revealing. We get to see a dark racer with a radical body kit that includes massive fender flares, similar to what Subarus rally cars use in the American Rally Association Championship.

However, the front and rear bumpers seem to have been redesigned. Carbon fiber seems to be the theme here, as it shows up around the air intakes and on the rear air diffuser, helping the engineers keep the weight of the car under control.

The photos show that the car is racing slicks, which is a confirmation that this monster is made for the tarmac. Scott Speed's name shows up on the rear windows of the Project Midnight, right next to the US flag. Subaru seems to have chosen well. Speed is a four-time rallycross champion with stints in Formula 1, Formula E, and NASCAR.

There is no information about what powers the top secret Project Midnight. Subaru Motorsports USA is hinting toward an all-electric powertrain, but there is no confirmation of the choice.

We still have to wait for that information and for so many others until July 11, when the car is going uphill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the English countryside. So there is just one week left, save the date! But don't talk about Project Midnight!
