As unbelievable as it might sound, this story finalized with an unforeseen happy ending. George Talley last saw his '79 Vette on an unfaithful day in July 1981. After he parked his beloved C3 on Jefferson Ave., Detroit, George came back to the car and was stupefied when he found out that his Corvette wasn't there anymore.
Naturally, he thought it was stolen and immediately filed a police report at the local station. After years and years of fruitless investigations, Mr. Talley ultimately gave up the thought of being reunited with his coveted all-American sports car. Here comes the plot twist: after three-and-a-bit decades, completely out of the blue, he received a phone call from the AAA.
The person on the other end of the line told him that his 1979 Chevrolet Corvette coupe was finally found in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. You can only imagine how completely baffled George got thanks to that sudden and most improbable phone call from the AAA. That being said, the Vette was unfortunately found in pretty poor condition, but that's only natural if you take into account those 33 years of use and abuse courtesy of still unidentified malefactors.
"I’ve heard it was running, it had 47,000 miles on it, and right now, it’s at the police station in Hattiesburg,” declared Mr. Talley for WXYZ Detroit. "I was sitting at home last Friday looking at Judge Mathis, and I get a call from AAA telling me you have a Corvette in Mississippi, come and get it. And, uh… I said, ‘what?’”
But here comes this story's cherry on the top: General Motors has learned about George's rough Corvette and has offered to pay up the transportation bill in order to bring the old lady back to Detroit for repairs.
