Yesterday, we saw a car running down the street that looked strange and familiar. Whilst some rushed to call that car the FAST concept, we were more reluctant and wrote that it could be the upcoming X1.
It turns out we were right. Today, the same car was spotted on the back of a trailer, being transported between various test facilities of the German company. According to our spy photographers, this is definitely the upcoming F48 X1, set to make its debut in 2015.
The new car is rumored to be front-wheel-drive and, of course, shares its platform with the MINI Cooper and 1 Series GT, all of them working on UKL. From the looks of it, the car will keep the same general design (that's what tipped us off in the first place).
Even though it seems a bit soon to see the X1 being replaced (it was launched in 2009), by 2015, the car will turn 6, almost enough to justify a transition (usually BMWs have a production lifespan of around 7 years, with a facelift after the 3rd or 4th year).
Since BMW is already testing this car, it's pretty obvious that they want it to be perfect and every little aspect will be taken into consideration, to give you the best possible driving experience. Compared to the 1 Series GT and the Cooper, you could expect this car to have bigger engines and better performance.
