Our dedicated team of spy photographers have sent us the latest batch of photos detailing the upcoming 2 Series two-door coupe model.
At the core of this new model stands the F20's platform, which has been stretched into the shape of three-box design. Reports indicate this has made the car a little heavier, but honestly, we don't really care because the 1er's scared face is gone.
The 2 Series is viewed as a premium car above the 1-Series, just like the 6 Series is better than a 5 Series (and more expensive).
Just like the F20 hatch, the 2er will be bigger and, as a result, more practical. Extended tracks and a longer wheelbase means the coupe should handle better than before.
Previous reports suggested production will start in November, at least for the hot M235i version. This would point towards the reveal taking place at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
Over time, engine options will probably be the same as the 1 Series hatch, but at launch only the more powerful 228i and 235i will be available in the US. In Europe, we can also expect diesel engines to be placed under the 2er's bonnet, most likely the 220d and 225d. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered, all xDrive will be optionally available as well, along with sub sub 200 hp petrol engines, like the 220i.
