BMW went a completely different route with the new 3er Gran Turismo than it did with the similarly named 5-Series. And that’s probably because the strange 5-Series GT is not finding favor with customers anywhere. The car you see here is going to be show as a per-production concept first, so a lot can change still.
The shape of the rear hatch must have cause BMW engineers a few problems, or they might have wanted to show off some new tech, because Bimmertoday reports the 2013 BMW 3-Series GT sports a retractable rear wing. We’ve got our own fresh spyshots of the car, and while it’s not up, it becomes easy to spot the wing once you know it’s there, between the lip of the boot and the glass.
The 3-Series Gran Turismo will get the production codename F43 and will be based on the same platform as the new F30 3-Series sedan, sharing its engines in the process.
The prototype caught testing also comes with a huge panoramic roof that stretches from the back almost all the way to the back. It’s shaping up as a really nice place to be in.
