Take one last hard look at the Mercedes CL-Class, because it's going to a better place. Its replacement is on its way, a brand new car spawned from a brand new idea for Mercedes. Rather than make a new CL, they've simplified the naming system will offer a two-door version of the S-Class intend.
As this is such a big change for Mercedes, the S-Coupe is expected to be delayed by at least another year, even though the S-Class sedan is already revealed.
This prototype is still heavily camouflaged, but we can tell the overall shape of the body is a bit more athletic than the CL, with a lower roof and rakish windows.
The same MRA platform used by the new S-Class is going to set the benchmark in the luxury coupe segment. Weight reduction, improved ride and handling are all on the table.
We expect the engine range to go a little lower than it did with the CL-Class by offering the new 400 model, which is powered by a new 3-liter twin-turbo V6. Other than that, expect the usual mix of big V8 and maybe even the V12 which is still offered in the ultimate SL and G-Class models.
