In recent years, Ford has started doing in America what Volkswagen did in Europe. Its products have become less average and more premium. You can now spend over $40,000 on a Fusion sedan with all the bells and whistles, more than a base-line BMW 3 Series sedan.
If that's the case, then what is Lincoln for anyway? Ford CEO Alan Mulally actually wanted to close the brand and focus only on core models, but today is the day we're glad he wasn't allowed to.
A production prototype for the Lincoln MKC has been spotted by our own spy photographers in Michigan. It looks absolutely fantastic, that is if you can take the overdone Lincoln design language.
The MKC was previewed as a concept in January earlier and likely enter production around mid-year 2014. We wouldn't be surprised if it pops up in at Detroit 2014.
So what do we know? "Mum" is the word right now from both Ford and Lincoln. But since we know the MKC is a C-SUV based on the Ford Escape, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is pretty much a given.
There might or might not be a 1.6 EcoBoost with 180 hp as well, but there should be a hybrid version with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-Cycle I-4 engine. So what about something bigger? Well, the MKZ does offer a 3.7-liter V6 that it's twin brother the Fusion doesn't, so there's a chance this will also be available on the MKC, just for the sake of true luxury.
