After a number of rumors suggesting BMW was going to work on a complete and very strong line of SAVs, we finally got to see the prototype for the third generation X5 recently, and the internet has been buzzing ever since. These are the first shots of the next X5 doing what it’s supposed to do, pitting xDrive against mother nature, like in the commercials.
The F15 is going to improve upon its predecessor in a number of significant ways. First off, the design - bolder and more explicit than before. The grille looks huge on this prototype and the headlights are connected like on the 2012 3-Series.
Besides this, the X5 will now use aluminum wherever possible to save weight. Some engine downsizing will thus be in order, and the range will be completely turbocharged. Changes to the proportions of the vehicle will also take place, as the SAV will for the first time offer a long wheelbase configuration.
