Did you think that the RS6 was going to be the only way you can scare a pack of dogs into being quite by putting them in the back of an estate and driving them round a track? Think again, Audi is currently working on a new RS4 that will slot under its big brother in the range and will bring comparable power to the next BMW M3.
This is the first time that the RS4 has been caught testing and we are rather fond of the low stance and aggressive look this car has on the track.
The biggest unanswered question is what will power the track-fucused RS4 Avant. One option is the same 450 horsepower 4.2-liter that went into the RS5, but a 4.0-liter that came with the S6 and S7 in frankfurt is also viable, likely to produce 434 horsepower. Last but not least, the RS4 could adopt the recent downsizing trend and implement a downsized forced induction V6, though it will likely be good for only 400 horsepower, so we’re not fans of this option.
Whatever engine they use, it has to be as powerful as both the BMW M3 and Mercedes’ answer, the C63 AMG.
Cosmetically, the car will sport massive alloy wheels, a more aggressive front end with bigger intakes and two big exhaust tips round the back. Inside, there’s bound to be the usual mix of fine leather and stiffer racing seats that most RS models have.
The RS4 Avant is likely to debut some time next year, but it’s unlikely to make the trip across the pond to the American market.
