The spy photographers have been busy tracking down the new Boxster, codenamed 981 by Porsche engineers, that should hit the road as soon as the fall of this year. As is the case with everything made by the Stuttgart sportscar maker, any changes made to the chassis and exterior look minor at first glance.
However, this is the first time we’ve seen the new Boxster with its top down, revealing some tantalizing glimpses of the interior. Porsche says that the 2012 comes with completely new sheetmetal that tries to be unique and less familiar to a 911 owner.
The power for the new Boxster is expected to be provided by the same direct injection, flat-six 2.9 liter and 3.4 liter units. The big news (which has actually been confirmed by the automaker) is that the Boxster will get a turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant that would make the vehicle more efficient and less expensive, allowing it to become available for a wider range of customers. However, this development is still some years away.
