Our spies stationed in Spain have sent us the latest footage of the new C-Class Estate, the station wagon that could reshape our perception of premium family compacts as early as 2014. Built on a new platform, the S205 generation model will be slightly lighter and will offer noticeable improvements in fuel efficiency.
The design of the new model will evolve from that of the new S-Class, with flowing creases down the side, a prominent grille and fewer straight lines that intersect each other. Higher grade interior finishes will be seen in conjunction with a better Command system and a larger cabin.
The four-cylinder petrol engines, which made a great evolutionary leap forward when the W204 was launched will continue to be the mainstay. Most customers should opt for Mercedes' know C 220 CDi diesel with a 7G-Tronic gearbox, but smaller and cheaper Renault 1.6-liter diesel engines will make up a big chunk of overall sales once they become available.
The W205 sedan is going to be officially revealed next week, but the S205 Estate/Wagon could be two or three months delayed.
