We already had two close encounters with the upcoming 2015 Opel/Vauxhall Astra K earlier this year in January and March. But as there's no rest for the wicked, Opel is preparing a little something extra for the Astra.
Sure, an OPC/VXR version can't be taken into consideration just yet, although a hardcore version will most likely be spawned by Opel/Vauxhall some time after the standard Astra makes a debut.
Until such exciting times will find their way to us, Russelsheim is treating us with the 2016 Astra GSi. The mildly-hotter hatchback was spotted undergoing testing near the Nurburgring, so our carparazzi couldn't miss the chance of sending a fresh batch of spyshots.
After a closer look at the pictures, you can see why we used 'sportier' earlier on to describe the car. By now, you must have spotted the two big exhaust pipes that add extra spice and also a powerful sound when the gas is stepped on.
Although these components were completely blacked-out, slightly aggressive front and rear bumpers will give the Astra GSi a more toned appearance, but not as ripped as the OPC/VXR version would look like.
Just as with the regular Astra, there's no word on what will occupy the engine bay. However, we should expect a power output rated within the 190 - 230 HP range, but at this point, that's pure speculation we're dealing with. Also, expect the GSi version to show up roughly six months after the standard Astra debuts in Frankfurt later this year.
