As if the Chevelle wasn't already a head-turning machine, the Malibu pushed everything to a new level in 1964. The Malibu was the top-of-the-range Chevelle and could be had as a four-door sedan, two-door hardtop, convertible, and station wagon.
Customers who walked into a Chevrolet dealership in 1964 to order the Malibu could pick any engine they wanted, including the lazy six. However, the GM brand offered several potent units, including the top 327 with 300 horsepower.

The engine in charge of putting the wheels in motion on this Malibu is no longer the original unit but a 400ci V8 whose condition is top-notch. As anyone can determine with a few clicks on the photos in the gallery, there's almost nothing to complain about on this Malibu, and the quality of the restomod is impressive.

eBay seller sterl_91 says the overhaul turned the Malibu into a showstopper, as the car received several notable trophies at car shows in the States.

However, the Malibu wasn't always an award-winning model. It was pulled from a barn 27 years ago when the owner decided to give it a second chance.

The restoration included major work in every department, including the body, the interior, and under the hood. The paint was resprayed by a professional shop, so it now shines like a new car. The interior is a custom cloth and vinyl combination with matching seatbelts, a custom Dakota dash with Bluetooth radio and a B&M ProStock shifter that teases what happens in the engine bay.

The 400 is paired with a built TH350 transmission, and the mechanical upgrades include Edelbrock RPM Performer heads, an MSD HEI Street Fire distributor, and a BeCool radiator with an electric fan. The owner shared a detailed list of the upgrades on eBay, so if you're interested in this car, you'd better check it out before bidding.

Put everything together, and you get a fantastic Malibu whose place is in someone's garage, away from anything that could alter its fantastic condition. I'm not surprised that it became a head-turning Chevy – I admit that the first thing I noticed was the cloth top; the owner says it's a Hartz top that without electric controls, but it still looks great and signals major upgrades in other key areas.

This Malibu started the search for a new home earlier this week and landed on eBay with a price tag that makes sense, considering all these upgrades. The car can be yours for $38,500, but the owner has also enabled the Make Offer button. You should contact the owner to discuss all the details and get a ticket for Las Cruces, New Mexico to see it in person if you're committed to a purchase.
