smart has big plans for the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, as the company will use the event to introduce the Forvision concept, a development that previews the next fortwo range.
The smart Forvision will showcase new technologies, which are aimed at protecting the environment, as well as futuristic styling cues, which can be seen in the adjacent sketches. As you can see, the vehicle will stick to the tridion safety cell architecture, with the rest of the design elements being an evolution of what smart currently offers.
However, the vehicle will be a technological showcase: developed together with chemical specialist BASF, the Forvision relies in electric power and uses multiple innovative eco technologies.
For example, the rims of the concept are made of plastic, which allows each one to save about 3 kg compared to a normal metal wheel. In addition to that, the vehicle's infotainment and climate control systems will use energy from a solar panel mounted on the roof of the concept.
The eco theme is continued in the cabin, where we have features like "e-textile" seat coverings, which are basically thin fabrics that use heat-conductive coatings. These are designed to save energy when heating the seats.
The third generation of the fortwo, which should come to the market sometime next year, is expected to integrate some of the features we see on the Forvision concept, and we are talking about both new technologies and styling cues.
