Skoda Reveals VisionSea Hybrid Cigar Boat Inspired by 'Simply Clever' Design

The web has shared photos of cigar boats looking like Corvettes and Lamborghinis, but today we laid eyes on the first one inspired by a family sedan. Taking inspiration from its VisionC concept car of 2014, Skoda has designed the VisionSea, a vehicle for the high seas.
Even though most people know the company for making Fabias, Skoda also manufactures buses, trucks and even electric trams. The VisionSea is their first entry into the luxury yacht market, and it's also the first hybrid.

From bow to stern, the machine is twice as long as a Superb sedan and its striking acid green paint will get it noticed everywhere it goes. Power doesn't come from a big V8, since the Czechs wanted to show how concerned they are for the environment. Instead, a hybrid system combines a 180 hp turbocharged TSI with a 270 hp electric motor.

Just like most of the other vehicles made by the Volkswagen Group, the VisionSea is going to be available with a 6-speed DSG gearbox, which makes tricky gear changes in the marina a thing of the past.

Running on battery power alone the first Skoda hybrid can propel itself with zero emissions for 50 nautical miles. But when the tank is full to the brim, and the TSI engine used, up to 980 miles can be done, enough to get you from Italy to Spain.

Practicality has always been an essential part of the Skoda formula, and this can clearly be seen inside the boat. All VisionSea models will come with numerous 'Simply Cleaver' features as standard, including two bottle holders, life jackets, pockets that hot tablet PCs and much more.

By next year, Skoda has promised to target Sports Activity Yacht (SAY) buyers with a 4-motor drive model built on the same platform. Mark April 1st as the start of a new era for them!
