We think of Skoda as a 100% Czech carmaker, but even though the company is still focused on Europe and its domestic market, their growth strategy also depends on more emerging markets, such as India or China.
Showing just how important the Chinese market is, Skoda Auto today announced that it has surpassed 1 million cars produced in China, just six years after they started production at the Shanghai Volkswagen’s (SVW) plant.
In the People's Republic, Skoda just started production of the Superb facelift a few weeks ago and plans to offer the new Octavia beginning in 2014. In October, they delivered 21,500 vehicles delivered to customers there, 6% less than a year ago, but still enough for the fourth strongest sales month.
Currently, the Chinese market range is made up of the Yeti, Superb, Octavia, Rapid and Fabia.
Cumulatively over the first ten months, Skoda 199,200 sold vehicles in China (January to October 2012: 204,800; -2.7%).
