It seems that Skoda's unique blend of sensibleness, affordable prices and family oriented vehicles has caught on so well that their model lineup is being allowed to grow even further. The company once known only for the Fabia and Octavia will soon have a large SUV on offer.
Skoda chief Winfried Vahland has told British magazine Autocar an SUV will be launched in 2016. This would be based on VW Groups MQB and will will be engineered together with the CrossBlue SUV (pictured above). The same report basically also confirms the 7-seater VW crossover SUV for a 2015 debut.
The CrossBlue was designed as a 7-seater SUV with good build quality and to tackle the North American market where VW hasn't been doing so well. What Skoda will do with a large SUV is still up in the air, but we think it will probably be more successful in China than Europe.
Getting back to the Skoda large SUV, this will measure somewhere around 4.6 meters, which is not that big. Don't think of this as a Touareg, more of a longer, more practical crossover. Its main rivals will be the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. Power will come from petrol, diesel and even plug-in hybrid engines.
