Volkswagen is among the companies whose 2011 models have been recently tested by the IIHS, so the German manufacturer hasn't missed the occasion to praise its vehicles a little bit. A total of six models have received the Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the company proudly said in a release. The all-new Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Golf, GTI, Tiguan and all-new Touareg, each received a Good rating for front, side and rear crash test evaluations, as well as for roof strength.
"Volkswagen has shown an enduring commitment to engineer vehicles with safety performance that goes beyond basic government standards," says Institute president Adrian Lund. "The 2005 Jetta was the first car to ace the Institute's tough side impact crash test, and Volkswagens like the new 2011 Jetta continue to set the standard with the highest safety ratings."
Safety plays a key role in Volkswagen's market strategy in the United States, as the manufacturer intends to fully benefit from all markets, thus being able to reach its goal to become the number one carmaker by 2018.
The company is thus offering a wide range of safety features on all of its models, making some of them leaders in their respective classes. The Touareg for example, is, until now, the only large SUV to earn the Top Safety Pick for 2011.
"Volkswagen is committed to safety," said Mark Barnes, COO, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "To have IIHS recognize a total of six Volkswagen models with this significant achievement is a testament to our commitment to engineering safe vehicles. We are excited to lead the industry with the most Top Safety Pick awards."
