Silverstone Hotel Destroyed in Major Fire

This week's British Grand Prix will certainly not be the same, as one additional thing has changed as compared to the past editions. Aside from the fact that the Silverstone circuit will greet the F1 teams and drivers with a brand new Arena layout, it has now emerged that a hotel in the same area of the circuit has burned down to the ground this week.

The double storey Premier Inn hotel caught fire on Monday night, with more than 50 firefighters trying to put it down. They succeeded in the end, but they weren't able to save much from the building located at the Green Man pub.

There have been no similar fires reported in the area and there is no suggestion that there is any link to the British Grand Prix,” said Northamptonshire West CID inspector Andy Glenn. According to media reports, one woman was hospitalized as a result of the fire, while the police already have two suspects in custody.

While a terrible incident itself, the news means the fans from all over Great Britain will have to look for new accommodation in the area, as the hotel was located at a stone's throw from the circuit and used to be very popular within the teams, spectators and media personnel.

I am sure that the South Northants area will rally round and help find accommodation for the people booked to stay there at such a busy time for the circuit. I spoke to one bed and breakfast operator who had been booked for months for this weekend,” said Dermot Bambridge, Chairman of South Northants Council.
