French driver Sebastien Ogier (Volkswagen Polo) is the new WRC champion, after sealing the 2013 season title with a win in his home country. Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia finished Rallye de France in 2:53:07.6 hours, 12 seconds quicker than second-placed Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio in their Citroen DS3 WRC (Abu Dhabi Citroen WRT).
With only two stages left this season, Sebastien Ogier leads the pack 238 points, followed by Thierry Neuville and Jari-Matti Latvala with 142 and 125 points respectively, which means that the Frenchman can’t lose first place no matter what happens in Spain and Great Britain.
Moving on to the WRC Championship for Manufacturers, Volkswagen Motorsport has a 70-point lead ahead of Citroen Total Abu Dhabi WRT and will most likely grab the title over here as well.
2012 champion Sebastien Loeb raced for the very last in WRC this weekend and had to retire after crashing his Citroen. This was his fourth event of the season and ends 2013 with two wins and a second place finish.
