SEAT is one of the last European manufacturers not to hop onto the SUV or crossover train, yet that’s all about to change by 2015, according to autocar.co.uk, who spoke to the company president, James Muir. The new vehicle wouldn’t be particularly large, and it would rival compact SUVs such as the VW Tiguan, the Nissan Qashqai or the Ford Kuga.
Its styling will most likely be inspired by the IBX concept, which was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, about which Muir admitted that it had been created to see how their new design language would fit the body of an SUV - we say the result is not bad-looking, at all. Now, the production version will be different to the concept, of course, and it would be “a production statement of intent that will inspire you that Seat can make such a car [. . .] We will bring an SUV as quickly as we can,” said Muir. “After the concept in the next two years, it will be a short time before it comes to market.

SEAT expects to sell about 100,000 of these new SUVs per year - an impressive goal, considering their entire sales figure for 2011 was 353,000 units. They may also make a very small SUV, based on the Mii, which would be closely related to a production version of the VW Taigun concept.
