Although it’s been a week since we entered 2015, Scion decided to show us its New Year’s Resolution, which, among others, include two new vehicles being added to the lineup. Great news, since the FR-S (Toyota GT 86) is the only model that brings money now.
Fans wanting a modern Toyota Matrix will be happy to hear the production version Scion iM will be unveiled at this year’s New York Auto Show in April after we saw the concept at the LA Auto Show last year and spotted the mule being tested on the road.
The iM is targeted young clients, aged between 18 and 34 and in need of a sporty-looking vehicle that will also provide reliability, practicality and low maintenance.
Our guess is that the new hatch will replace the shoe-ugly xD model, which also means it will probably come with the same 1.8-liter engine making around 130 hp and 140 lb-ft. However, the automaker better stick the bigger 2.4-liter four-pot under that hood if they want to market it as a “sporty hatch”.
As with the other model Scion promised to introduce alongside the iM, the only thing we know about it is the fact that it will be a sedan, aimed towards the same buyers and should also look sporty.
We doubt the sedan will be built from scratch, which means it should come by as a rebodied Toyota compact. Could be a Corolla or a Japanese SAI. The latter could also mean it will be a hybrid.

The sportier Auris
Based on the European Toyota Auris, the iM’s name can be translated into “individuality, intriguing and a good fir for customers’ income” as well as “modern. multifaceted and magnetic”.Our guess is that the new hatch will replace the shoe-ugly xD model, which also means it will probably come with the same 1.8-liter engine making around 130 hp and 140 lb-ft.
