Schumacher Expects Boost in Hungary

Mercedes GP has had its share of ups and downs in the 2010 Formula One season so far, with the team scoring a podium in one race and barely making the points in the other. The latest example of that happened this past month, when Nico Rosberg scored a podium finish in Great Britain yet he only managed an 8th place in Germany.

Despite the unsatisfactory development curve experienced by the Brackley based team so far, its main asset for 2010 – although some would beg to differ – 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher tried to calm down his team prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix. According to the 41-year old German, the track at Hungaroring will better suit the W01 and its latest updates, so he expects an improved performance this weekend.

The German Grand Prix last weekend was clearly disappointing for us but we have seen a variety of performances from our team over the past few races. It is clear that we need to understand our car better, and the track in Budapest plus more time to evaluate our upgrades should help us in that respect,” said Schu in a preview of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

As I said after the last race, we have to remain calm, look into all the details and analyse our performance in order to learn as much as possible from such weekends. That is the way we have to go in order to improve our situation which may already be possible this coming weekend in Hungary,” added the German driver.

Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn also insisted that the track in Hungary will provide a great test for his team's latest updates on the 2010 single-seater, and admitted that a good result here will count a lot for the morale of the Mercedes mechanics back at the factory.

Hungary is a technically demanding circuit and should be a good proving ground for our latest upgrades, providing further invaluable track testing time, as we work to find the optimum set-up,” said the Mercedes boss.
