Rivian is rumored to announce the revamped R1S and R1T models during the Electric Summer Kick-Off event on June 6. We've already discussed the new models' features, but a recent discussion with a Rivian employee offered more context. Although the prices of the refreshed models will not change significantly, the 2025 R1S and R1T will provide a more refined ride quality and better cabin comfort, among other things.
Rivian is again on a PR roll promoting the refreshed R1 models that are expected to launch soon, probably next week. The company's CEO, RJ Scaringe, talked at Bernstein's 40th Annual Strategic Decisions Conference about strategy, production, and vehicle updates, offering a clear insight into where Rivian is standing. However, the most important information about the 2025 R1 vehicles came from a service center employee who confirmed they had received training for the refreshed models.

In a post, Rivian Forums user ChargeSetGo wrote that he was at a Rivian service center recently with his R1S and had the chance to talk to one of the tech people on site. The employee confirmed that the refreshed R1S and R1T would officially launch next week, which aligns with our information. Expect this to happen on June 6 during the Electric Summer Kick-Off event at Rivian Spaces across the country.

The employee told ChargeSetGo that they already had a refreshed R1S in the shop for a while for training, so they learned a few previously unknown things. Being a service guy, he was pleased that servicing the new model was easier, presumably because of the optimized wiring and redesigned parts.

From the customer's point of view, the refreshed models will also feel noticeably better in terms of suspension and ride quality. It's unclear whether this is due to mechanical changes in the suspension or better software. In the past, Rivian has vastly improved suspension behavior via software updates that tweaked the air suspension characteristics. However, there could also be some hardware improvements with the new models.

Another significant improvement was in the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) department. Electric motors are much quieter, presumably because Rivian improved noise dampening throughout. With the inclusion of a heat pump, the EV startup also relocated the air conditioning compressor, which resulted in less noise entering the cabin.

An interesting piece of information was about the revamped models' pricing. The Dual-Motor models will keep their price level mostly unchanged. However, Rivian will raise the prices of the Quad Motor variants. The sales will start with the Dual Motor R1S and R1T, with the Quad Motor versions arriving at a later time. Tri-motor vehicles have also been confirmed, although we have no information about them. Since this information comes from an unofficial source, you should take it with a grain of salt.

The higher prices for the Quad Motor Rivian EVs align with CEO RJ Scaringe's words at the Bernstein conference. Although the base variants will sell for about $70,000, Rivian will add more features the higher you go up the price ladder, boosting profitability. This is why Rivian expects the top-of-the-line models to be the most profitable. The current average selling price of Rivian vehicles is approximately $90,000, and that won't change even though the EV startup has achieved significant cost reductions with suppliers.
