BMW may have a lot on its plate regarding future products, and it seems it plans to revive a defunct nameplate: the 6 Series. And it won’t be another Gran Turismo like the old one that built on the G30 5er, but it will apparently launch in coupe and convertible body styles.
Nothing is official at this point, but the information came via AutoNews, which quoted an undisclosed "supply-chain industry source." The outlet names the future 6 Series a "mid-size" model and states it will debut in the second half of 2026.

By then, the G1X 8er will have been eight years old, and with rumored plans to ditch the 4er, too, the new 6er might replace both of them. Does that sound familiar? Well, it's because Mercedes took a similar approach by phasing out the two-door variants of the C-Class and E-Class and replacing them with the first-ever CLE.

As a result, the future BMW 6 Series will probably take on the likes of the Mercedes CLE. It appears that the Munich auto marque has decided to use the Cluster Architecture for it. So, what does this mean in terms of powertrains? That it might launch with gasoline, electrified, and battery-electric power. A full-blown M model might top the family and go after the likes of the AMG CLE 63.

BMW's die-hard fans may have noticed that there is no word about a possible future 6 Series Gran Coupe. As a result, chances are this body style hasn't been approved for production. That's a pity, as both the old 6er GC and the current 8er GC are great four-door grand tourers with appealing designs, so it's sad that they might not get a direct replacement.

Production of the all-new BMW 6 Series is rumored to start in July of 2026. The model is said to hit the assembly line at the brand's Dingolfing factory in Germany, which is where the current 8 Series comes to life (among others) and where the discontinued 6 Series used to be assembled, too.

While we are certainly excited about the possibility of getting a new BMW coupe and convertible, we are also sad that the Gran Coupe might not live past its current generation. But that's not the only big news, as it appears the BMW XM might also be phased off for good.

The same outlet briefly mentioned the standalone M product in the same article, stating that its production will end in November 2028 and adding that it won't be replaced. Guess we have more things to be excited about regarding BMW's future, as the XM is one ugly crossover that does not do justice to the M Division. So, are you sad to see it go?
