Let’s not beat around the bush here, RenualtSport fans (us included) would like hot versions of everything, even if there’s no reason for it. Well, today one answer to their prayers came in the form of the Megane Estate GT 220, which will be sold as a limited run performance edition.
The engine going into the car is the same 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as in the Megane RS, but it only makes 220 PS, just like the first version of the old Megane RS (think Shake It!). But the torque output is the same as the current RS’s, 340 Nm of road twisting power.
Renault didn’t reveal any o the goodies, like standard sprint time and top speed, but they did say the Megane Estate GT 220 will return 7.3lt/100km on the combined cycle and put out CO2 emissions of 169g/km. That’s much better than the Megane RS’s 195 grams and 8.4 l/100km, but this is mainly due to the stop-start system.
“Mégane Estate GT 220 is concrete evidence that a car can be practical yet still pack genuine performance,” notes Jean-Maxime Boulanger, Product Manager at Renault Sport. “It has all the qualities expected of a sporty car while at the same time permitting everyday driving pleasure.”
