The use of photovoltaic cells is becoming increasingly common in all branches of industry, especially the automotive one. All automakers are desperate to earn their green credentials, by any means, in order to boost their image, and projecting themselves as ‘eco-conscious’.
Now, they have announced the building of “the world’s largest photovoltaic system in the auto industry”, which will be used to shelter new cars from the elements, as well as passively producing electricity. They will be building a total of 400,000 square meters-worth of panels, which will be placed at six of its production facilities, in France - Douai, Maubeuge, Flins, Batilly, Sandouville and Cleon.
However, they will not stop here, as their Valladolid and Palencia plants, in Spain, will be receiving some 100,000 square meters of panels, as well. Next up is the Busan plant, in South Korea, followed by Romania, Brazil, Morocco, Colombia, Slovenia and Chile.
