Renault has been working on the revival of the Alpine brand for several years. Knowing that they are a little bit behind schedule, the French decided to give us a little sneak peak with the Vision Concept.
Although we've seen official videos of the car, we were more than a little curious to see what it's like in the real world. Thankfully, the Alpine Vision Concept was present at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
There's nothing like it, is there? There are a lot of hints to the A110 on this car. Starting from the front, we see the DNA of the brand has been conserved in the shape of the rounded headlights. There are also character lines down the hood.
The general proportions are similar to those of a Porsche Cayman or an Audi TT, but with a little more emphasis on the retro aspect.
The interior is our favorite part. Let's start with the seats, which have exposed metal, followed by Alcantara and black quilted leather. As some of you may know, an Alpine was the first car to win the WRC. The chronograph clock stuck to its dashboard was referenced here. Just like Audi TT, the Vision Concept features an entirely digital dashboard, which can display anything from a Google map to a retro analog design. It's lovely!
We've seen patent images that suggest the production model will be pretty close to this thing. We know that the goal set by the engineers was comfort-oriented, so don't expect a Lotus.
Unfortunately, we don't know what will power it, but apparently the concept has a 1.6-liter turbo engine delivering 250 hp. It doesn't sound half bad if you ask us. Rumors have suggested the production model will have a bored out version of that engine, a 1.8L that's to be shared with the next Megane RS and Nissan Pulsar Nismo.
