Kia has come a really long way in a short time. Probably the first car that got them noticed was the Sportage which came out in 2010. The third gen-model model was thus due for a makeover and it got one… in Korea.
The Sportage is made in Gwangjiu, South Korea and in Slovakia for the European market. So we have yet to see the facelift on our roads, but luckily we've secured some initial photos of the Sporage Facelift from its domestic market.
As you can see, this Sportage R has got a new grille design, fog lights, LED rear lights and of course fresh alloys.
The interior sports the latest 4.2 inch TFT LCD display, a Flex Steer system with Driving Modes (ECO, Normal and Sport), front and rear heated seats, rear air vents and other goodies.
Power comes either from a 2.0-liter diesel or a petrol engine with the same displacement. The diesel is the cheaper of the two and comes with with 184 hp and 400 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm. This is available with both 2WD and 4WD and with manual or automatic gearboxes.
The petrol version is a lot more powerful. This new Theta II 2.0 "Turbo GDI" unit has 261 hp at 6,000 rpm and 265 Nm of torque at 1850-3000 rpm. It is only available with front wheel drive and the automatic gearbox though. Despite this shortcoming, it's also economical. Korean market figures indicate the equivalent of 11.6 L/100km in the city and 8.7 L/100km on the highway, equivalent to emission of 183 grams per kilometer.
The are no videos of the car yet, but if you head on down to the official ore an website, there's bound to be some footage there.
