Red Bull Considering Title Sponsorship

Dietrich Mateschitz admitted that title sponsorship could become a thing of the future for his Red Bull Racing team. Although owning both Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso, the Austrian billionaire is clearly focusing on the former, which he aims to turn into a more established team. Once the Milton Keynes based organization reaches that status, he admitted he'll consider a title sponsor for his team.

“As soon as Red Bull Racing is recognized as an established team, a title sponsor could be possible,” said Austrian billionaire Mateschitz in an interview with the Sunday Express.

Red Bull Racing has already started to become “recognized as an established team” ever since last year's effort for the championship, when the Milton Keynes based team ended up in 2nd place, after the innovative Brawn GP outfit. This year, with their powerful RB6 designed by Adrian Newey, the Austrian team is leading the manufacturers' standings, while its two drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are head-to-head on top of the standings.

According to the British publication, it seems that the 66-year old owner of the Austrian energy drink company has already set eyes on a big sponsor – presumably a luxury goods brand – which could bring his F1 team a huge $38 million.

After their team manager Christian Horner hinted that funds are currently a problem for Red Bull Racing as compared to the strong established teams of Formula One, FOTA chairman and McLaren Mercedes team principal Martin Whitmarsh insisted that the current financial format of the series, as well as the level of expenditures in F1 – keeps all the front-running teams in the same budget area.

“I think that whatever the level of funding, and I don't know the funding, in terms of resources, the larger teams are pretty similar. Red Bull is a well funded, well structured, well led organization,” said Whitmarsh.
